River Fund E-news
2008 Vision and Beyond! In 2007 we served over 63,000 people which is more than we had projected. We are beginning plans for the next 5 and 10 years and are seeking avenues for expansion of the number of people served, services and physical space. We are talking with local politicians about available government funding and local real estate. Council persons and representatives are interested in our programs and are willing to lend support! We would like to find space in the range of 10,000 - 15,000 sq. feet to store products, program prep area, food pantry distribution, administrative office, outreach intake and consultation space, and facilitate healthy lifestyle programs such as yoga and martial arts classes. So, if anyone has any contacts that may be able to help us we'd love to make a presentation.
WE NEED YOUR URGENT HELP! Jazz for Peace Fund Raiser We have selected April 29 at 3pm for a Jazz for Peace fund raiser. Partial proceeds from the event will go to The River Fund. We need to sell 50 $25.00 tickets by February 4 to secure the venue. Please ask your friends, co-workers and neighbors to support us. The proceeds will go to program support and general operating expenses. Once the 50 minimum ticket quota is reached, the venue will be secured and we will know which venue gets booked. After that, tickets will be $35.00 each and will continue to be on sale until April 29. Contact Candika 631.751.3695 for tickets.

New Healthy Snack Program We are creating a distinct healthy snack program for children. In an attempt to influence healthy food choices and help reduce the effects of childhood obesity, we are searching for new sources for healthy, nutritious, low-cal snacks.
Back to School Program It's never to early to start prepping for Back to School. Since the summer months have a tendency to wane in products, we want to jumpstart this program so we can be certain of providing adequate goods to the kids as they head back to school in Aug/Sept. We recently received t-shirts from a supplier who found us on the web. Items we will be needing include backpacks, supplies and clothing.
Common Cents We were recipients of Penny Harvest's Common Cents fund raiser this year. Several River Fund volunteers acted as Penny Harvest's ambassadors at the Field of Pennies exhibit at Rockefeller Center in December to help tell people about the project as they were viewing it.. NYC school children collected and then distributed one million dollars in pennies to their favorite charities. Several schools chose us to receive their donations! Click here to see the article.
